OPF’s efforts to pay more than one billion dues to Pakistani workers

The Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF) claims that more than Rs 1 billion was owed to Pakistani workers who came to Pakistan unemployed, injured or died during the Corona epidemic.

According to the data released, the total payments in the last three years have been more than Rs 1.70 billion, of which more than Rs 1 billion was disbursed in 2020.

According to the Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment, 94,000 Pakistani workers from around the world came to Pakistan after losing their jobs during the Corona epidemic. Who registered themselves.

Many of them were workers who had debt disputes with their companies. Some workers had come to Pakistan on holiday and could not return due to travel restrictions and their arrears were due.

The Overseas Pakistanis Foundation plays a role in resolving such workers’ arrears and disputes by liaising with the country and company concerned.

According to the available data, in the last three years, a total of 2374 workers have submitted their claims to the OPF Workers Welfare Department.

Of these, Rs. 1.70 billion has been paid to 734 workers. The highest amount of Rs 1.42 billion was given to the workers in the year 2020 alone. The majority of them were workers who had returned home due to the epidemic.

The Pakistan Overseas Foundation says it is not possible to say how many dues were received from which country or company.
