Dubai (Special Report)
The government of Pakistan has decided to bring another facility to the doorsteps of Pakistanis abroad, under which Pakistanis living abroad will soon be able to become a power of attorney (authority letter) at home by paying a fee of only 25 dollars.
For this purpose, a new system of power of attorney is being introduced in collaboration with NADRA. With this automation system, the power of attorney system will be online and automated and no one will have to visit embassies or government offices.
Not only that, but Pakistanis abroad who are being given authority inside the country will not feel the need to go to any office. Under the new system, the entire power of attorney system will be transferred to automation.
In this way, the power of attorney documentation will be terminated. In this regard, the Ministry of External Affairs has sought approval from the Federal Cabinet for necessary legal amendments, while the Economic Co-ordination Committee has also approved a technical grant of Rs. 83.3 million to NADRA for the development of automation system.
For the power of attorney, Pakistanis abroad face many difficulties and obstacles in which both time and money are wasted. Similarly, in many countries, Pakistani citizens have to travel from one city to another and go to embassies in other cities. It is very difficult for them. When the new power of attorney system reaches its final stage, an agreement will be reached between NADRA and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under which NADRA will charge the applicant 25 fees for power of attorney. This fee also has to be transferred online to the NADRA account.
What is the power of attorney?
A power of attorney is a legal document by which an individual gives another person the right to represent himself, and is done specifically to verify legal matters or documents. Overseas Pakistanis usually write a power of attorney to a lawyer and go to the embassy and sign it in front of a competent officer and get it certified by the embassy to give it legal status in Pakistan.
The process of creating a power of attorney is very complex and time-consuming. For this, fees have to be paid separately in each country and lawyers’ fees have to be paid separately.
