27-year rain record broken in UAE

Meteorology has said that the UAE has recorded the heaviest rainfall in 27 years.

After two days of continuous rain, Fujairah port received 255.2 mm of rain, the highest in the UAE in July. The second highest rainfall was recorded in Masafi with 209.7 mm while Fujairah Airport recorded 187.9 mm of rain.

Earlier in 1995, the highest rainfall recorded in Khorfakan was 175.6 mm. Dr Ahmad Habib, a meteorologist associated with the National Center for Meteorology, said, “We have a low-pressure system coming from India with upper and surface air pressure also extending from parts of Pakistan and Iran.

According to the National Center for Meteorology, 6 emirates experienced heavy rain along with thunder and the temperature dropped to 17 degrees Celsius at some places. More rain is predicted in the emirate over the next few days.
