Following the resignation of British Health Secretary Matt Hancock, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has chosen Sajid Javed for the post. In April 2018, under then-Prime Minister Theresa May, Sajid Javed was appointed to the post following the resignation of then-Home Secretary Amber Rudd, he held the post until Boris Johnson was elected Prime Minister.

After Boris Johnson became the Prime Minister in July 2019, Sajid Javed was made the Finance Minister but he held the post for only six months.
It was reported that Sajid Javed had resigned due to differences with Dominic Cummings, then Chief Adviser to the Prime Minister.

After becoming Home Secretary, Sajid Javed told the Sunday Telegraph: “It has affected me. My father came to the UK from Pakistan and I am the second generation of this immigrant.
Sajid Javed was the first Home Secretary to belong to a linguistic minority.
