The General Civil Aviation Authority has said that the Cessna Light Civil Single Engine Fixed Wing aircraft crashed in the parking lot of Sheikh Zayed Jama Masjid due to a technical fault.
The authorized teams immediately reached the accident site. In a statement, the authority along with the competent authorities announced that the preliminary investigation revealed that the accident was due to a technical fault. The plane was going to land at Al Bateen Executive Airport when it crashed in an uninhabited area.
The pilot was injured in the accident and was shifted to the hospital. All relevant teams including the National Search and Rescue Centre, General Command of Abu Dhabi Police and GCAA were contacted to secure the crash site.
The authorities concerned confirmed that the safety of citizens is their top priority. The authority says it will continue to investigate the causes and consequences of the incident. Officials have urged the public to get information only from official sources and avoid spreading rumours.
